I was awed by Barrett’s talent at public speaking, her passion for her work, and the inspiration she is. After attending numerous conferences, her presentation has been the best due to her talent in presenting and her outgoing personality engaging the audience.

Tina impresses me as someone who possesses what I would term a “therapeutic personality.” Her integrity, character and love for children are immeasurable. After witnessing Tina present in Indianapolis, IN at an annual conference, I knew that I wanted her to work/consult with our organization. Her presentation (symposium) The Dirt on Childhood Grief charted the complex emotional waters every child must navigate after a death, in a fun and safe environment – grief camp. She has a graceful way of weaving together her impassioned work, experience and poignant presenting skills.

In 2019, TGRC Executive Director, Tina Barrett, won the Association for Death Educators and Counselors Community Educator Award:

“Dr. Tina Barrett is the Founder and Executive Director of Tamarack Grief Resource Center in Missoula, MT. She is responsible for program development, implementation and evaluations, fundraising, human resources, volunteer coordination and training.

She oversees all programs including support groups, grief camps, consultations and educational seminars locally, regionally and nationally.

Tina has grown a non-profit revenue stream from Zero to 500 thousand yearly and has built up a staff of 10.

In the last 5 years, Dr. Barrett has grown TGRC’s programing collaboration with local K-12 schools, providing critical psycho-education and response service to communities in Montana helping them cope with the highest suicide rates in the nation.

TGRC’s ongoing work with the military’s Tragedy Assistance program for Survivors (TAPS) is because of her hard work over the years where she remains a Senior Consultant.

She has contributed to the field of thanatology with book chapters, academic articles and other written materials.

She serves on the National Alliance for Grieving Children’s Board of Directors, among many other professional board positions.

From a colleague in the Thanatology field: Tina is relatable as she weaves theory around practical examples, giving tools to others that they can apply in their daily work with grieving people.  She has razor sharp intelligence and a conscientious attitude.  She leads firmly but without appearing forceful, a rare skill among leaders in the nonprofit field.

From a colleague,

“Whether she is sitting on the grass under the night sky at a grief camp reading poetry to children or speaking in front of colleagues on a international stage, Tina’s true self shines through.  Her sheer power to rally a room to action and re-energize professionals is unparalleled and striking in its intensity-Tina Barrett is a force wholly unto herself.”

The winner of ADEC Community Educator Award: Dr Tina Barrett.”
